Since technology evolved, society has found many different ways to entertain itself. Although social media and streaming services have been a primary source of entertainment, video games have been one of the most innovative industries in the past two decades. Due to the great leaps in technology, developers have gotten craftier with their projects, minimizing the pixelated style that once dominated the screens and bringing life-like renders across multiple genres.
Thanks to several unique features, the video game industry has flourished, including collaboration with toy companies to create a series of collectible toys that can be played in both the natural and virtual worlds. With the world ushered into a digital era, these trends started to manifest in new ways. Recently, the rising popularity of Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs has helped steer the practice into a modern approach.
Like cryptocurrency, NFTs are digital assets that are held in blockchains. As a result, NFT holders not only get to claim ownership over pieces of digital art, music, video clips, or even social media posts but also gain accessibility to a series of benefits from the projects they’ve invested in. Owing to the versatile nature of NFTs, some projects have been in the works of merging tokens with video games. Joining the fray is The Battle Of Mars, a video game project that will be utilizing The Martians NFT.
The Battle Of Mars is set to launch on the 12tth of December, developed by the same team behind NFT project The Martians, a collection of 10,000 uniquely designed extraterrestrial characters created from the hands of an anonymous Oscar-nominated Pixar designer. However, while most of the NFT projects in the digital space have been creating animal-themed two-dimensional tokens, the Martians developer wanted to take another approach.
Rather than create a series of collectible tokens, the developers wanted to create a functioning one and found their solution in video games. Eager to create something impactful, they opted to use 3D models to breathe life into their project.
Although the collection holds 10,000 unique tokens, prospective holders can try their luck and mint to get their hands on one of the five Golden Martian tokens. These rare tokens are distinguishable from the typical collection with its solid gold skin. While Golden Martians are randomly distributed and holders can either mint one for free or for 0.08 ETH.
The game has over 40 factions representing the biggest cryptocurrencies currently traded with 250 Martian each, allowing opponents to challenge others. When the Martian owners accept the challenge, the two wait out 24 hours to see which cryptocurrency has grown the most, giving the Martian with the most growth the victory.
Once the game is released, more Martians will be taken to the galaxy to be minted. The developers will be releasing a batch of 3,000 in February 2022 and 4,000 in April 2022. Battle for Mars will be occurring on an online battlefield set on Mars, acting like an MMORPG that lets owners move around with their Martians, talk to others, and challenge them in battle.
