Artist Frankie Lane Featured at ChaShaMa Gala 2023

Multi-media artist Frankie Lane was among the artist featured at this year’s ChaShaMa benefit. The Chashama Gala is a free-flowing, immersive event showcasing 200+ installations and performers. The event attracts hundreds of the city’s most forward-thinking landowners, corporate executives, arts professionals, and innovative creators.

ChaShaMa was founded in 1995 by Anita Durst to celebrate the legacy of theatre visionary Reza Abdoh. ChaShaMa’s initial focus was on producing and presenting new theatrical works. Recognizing that a lack of affordable space was the biggest threat to sustaining a diverse cultural environment in New York City, Durst began to work toward securing studio and presentation space in Midtown Manhattan for struggling artists by partnering with property owners. These owners were recruited to provide unused space to ChaShaMa. In the first decade, Durst and ChaShaMa secured seven locations on 42nd Street between 6th and Broadway, presenting over 700 shows.

Recent milestones for ChaShaMa include transforming space into small businesses, artist presentation spaces, creative workstation spaces, and classrooms for free art instruction. ChaShaMa has awarded over $13 million of what would be rent or lease income to real estate owners to creatives throughout New York. There are currently over 75 storefronts dedicated to minority and women small business owners.

Frankie Lane is an artist who works in various media, including photography, collage, painting, video, and music. Frankie Lane’s “You’ve Got Mail” art installation premiered at the ChaShaMa Gala 2021. New works and Lane’s individual photos and collaged canvases were featured throughout Times Square at this gala. Versions of Lane’s “You’ve Got Mail” are booked for future gallery-based installations.

Frankie Lane describes his process as follows. “A photographic image can capture a moment in time and preserve it. Collaging, tying, and bonding relics and artifacts to the printed image gives another layer of history. In my mailbox photography, I freeze time and connect my canvases to another parallel moment with canceled stamps, old letters, and envelopes. Blending images and tactile objects that have traveled miles from person to person to tell a story and carry a message to create a new meaning. In our day-to-day life, Pen-to-paper communication has almost completely been replaced by electronic mail, but we still see remnants of ancient message transmission. Reading and writing were, for many years, a privilege for the wealthy. Messenger pigeons, pony express, and handwritten letters have disappeared. Mailboxes that display personality, favorite colors, or professions have been pushed aside by Amazon, UPS, and FedEx deliveries. Preserving images of modes of mail delivery as art that provokes thoughts or promotes communication with others is a special interest of mine, “ Frankie Lane.

Game artists continue to impact growing category of entertainment

Right now, when quickly firing up a smartphone title from the App Store or exploring a favored product on an impressively powerful console machine, it’s evident that gaming has never been so good. Thanks to the continued innovation that is taking place in the gaming sphere, it’s now a go-to category of entertainment for millions of people. Everyone in the gaming industry is playing their part, game artists included.

Although the music in games and society’s changing gaming habits have also contributed to gaming’s notable growth, the art in games has also reached new heights. Game artists are responsible for that as they typically create art in a range of different gaming genres. There is a selection of different game art concepts to understand, too, from character art and sound art, to character animation and visual effects. Other common roles in this area of gaming include tech art, user interface design, sound design, and a few other important roles that contribute greatly to the gaming products we all typically explore in 2023.

Game artists deserve more credit than they get, too. In recent times, game artists have helped to create some truly excellent titles that have recorded notable success. For example, games like Genshin Impact have received glowing reviews for the eye-catching visuals they provide for gamers. Additionally, titles like Elden Ring offered the ultimate role-playing experience thanks to some truly detailed artwork throughout the game. Even online casino games, such as the prehistoric-themed Jackpot Giant, also rely on game artists to create a strong visual connection and some pleasurable designs to help make the game what it is today.

Essentially, without game artists, the games we play wouldn’t be anywhere near as impressive as they are. With that in mind, let’s salute some of the most talented game artists that have more than played their part in the games industry’s rise to prominence.

Warren Spector

An American game artist who has offered his expertise on a range of hugely successful titles, Warren Spector is a name many gamers will be fully aware of. Particularly known for his work in role-playing and immersive sim products, alongside a range of other notable categories, Spector’s work is some of the best around. He has helped create games like Ultima Underworld 2, System Shock, and Thief: The Dark Project. Warren Spector has also played a significant role in a range of Disney television shows, too, highlighting his immense talent that can be applied to various categories of entertainment.

Shigeru Miyamoto

For gamers who dive a little deeper and conduct extensive research into the games they play while also looking into gaming history, Shigeru Miyamoto is a name that will be more than familiar to many. Easily one of the greatest game artists ever, Miyamoto helped shape the thriving industry that we see today thanks to the selection of iconic Nintendo titles that he helped establish. From The Legend of Zelda to a range of Super Mario titles, his games have achieved legendary status and will never be forgotten. As a game artist, you can’t ask for any more than that.

Shinji Mikami

A name associated with the likes of the Resident Evil series in 1996 and the first version of the Dino Crisis series in 1999, Shinji Mikami is a game artist who has been working in the industry since 1990. A name many Capcom lovers will admire, Mikami has influenced numerous horror titles and is known for specializing in gruesome in-game art and providing a truly spine-chilling gaming experience.

Special mention must also go to Sid Meier, Will Wright, Alexey Pajitnov and Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Demi Lovato on Hollywood’s Role in Her Eating Disorder

Actress, singer, and mental health advocate Demi Lovato recently spoke out about how Hollywood’s beauty ideals fueled her eating disorder as a young actress. In an interview with TODAY’s Savannah Sellers, Lovato reflected on her recovery journey and how growing up in the public eye had a “really negative impact” on her mental health.

When Lovato first sought treatment for her eating disorder, she was 18 years old and already a prominent Disney Channel star. She sought treatment for her eating disorder as well as for emotional problems and self-harm.

And after sharing that event, she had to choose between following the advice to keep her mouth shut and say nothing or sharing her experience, strength, and hope with another person in hopes that it affects them in a positive way.

Toxic Standards of Beauty

According to Lovato, growing up during a time when young Hollywood was so slim had a detrimental effect on her mental health, which ultimately resulted in her eating disorder.

She shared that when you see pictures of people with ideal bodies, you start to scrutinize yourself and start to pick yourself apart.

It’s challenging to develop in a society where that is constantly available to you and right in front of your face. She grew up during a time when young Hollywood was considered to be extremely skinny.

Eating Disorders and Mental Health

Eating disorders are still very common, affecting millions of Americans. The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) estimates that 28.8 million Americans, or nearly 9 percent of the country’s total population, may develop an eating disorder.

Eating disorders take many forms, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating. Since these conditions jeopardize a person’s nutrition, they are among the deadliest mental illnesses. According to ANAD, they also carry a higher chance of dying by suicide.

Lovato’s Message of Hope

Throughout her career, Lovato has consistently spoken out about mental health awareness and has been open about her personal ups and downs. In 2018, Lovato nearly died after overdosing on heroin.

The terrifying, life-altering ordeal galvanized her to talk about the dangers of drug addiction in Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, her 2021 YouTube Originals documentary.

Lovato encourages teens who are struggling to ask for help. Thanks to celebrity mental health advocates like Lovato, more people are talking openly about eating disorders.

In her conversation with TODAY, the “Sober” singer encouraged any teens who are struggling with their mental health to ask for help.

She shared that she wished she had someone to turn to when she was 13 years old as she was starving herself and suffering from an eating disorder. She just wanted someone in the public eye to acknowledge that it was what they had gone through, but she didn’t have to go that path.

She wants young people to understand that asking for help and talking to others are both perfectly acceptable and extremely necessary.

Lovato’s Recovery

Luckily, toxic beauty standards no longer run Lovato’s life. The singer is doing much better now and even told Sellers that she’s working on a “happy rock album,” which she’s found “kind of challenging” as someone who has historically struggled so much.

Conclusion

Lovato’s story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of speaking out. By sharing her experience, she is helping to destigmatize eating disorders and mental health struggles and encouraging others to seek help.

Her journey serves as a reminder that recovery is possible and that no one is alone in their struggles.

The Resonating Voice of Luca Sormani, An Opera Star’s Journey at 30

Former opera singer and worship director Luca Sormani turns 30.

Celebrating his 30th birthday this year is Luca Sormani, a former opera singer and worship director, whose commanding voice once held many spellbound across venues, theaters, and churches throughout the United States. His powerful baritone, coupled with an inherent musical talent, has seen him through an illustrious career. Now, as he stands at a significant milestone, the desire to re-embrace his music career lingers in the air.

Luca’s journey began in Parma, Italy. His childhood was spent under the warm sun of Peru, only to relocate to Los Angeles at the tender age of twelve. This move marked the beginning of an incredible journey of musical discovery, nurtured by his high school choir teacher, Joy Devlin.

Upon recognizing the young Luca’s potential, Devlin took him under her wing, training his baritone voice and guiding him through performances at city festivals. His talent soon garnered wider attention when he auditioned for the National Episcopal Opera Competition, winning his first award in 2009.

The following years were marked by an increasing public demand for Luca’s performances. At 18, his pastors presented him to the congregation, where his melodic voice captured the hearts of many. This led to a decade-long journey, touring churches and evangelical crusades across the United States. However, in 2019, Luca made an unexpected decision to step down from directing the Evangelical movement, the reasons for which remain undisclosed.

The same year presented Luca with a new direction in the form of Maxwell David, a renowned vocal coach and artist manager. Recognizing the value of Luca’s talent, David began steering his career onto a new path, introducing him to social media and thereby connecting him with a wider audience.

The year 2021 marked the release of Luca’s debut single “Lovers and Sinners,” which quickly endeared itself to his fans. However, his musical journey took a pause shortly after when he encountered Joseph Ramani, a notable figure in real estate. At present, Luca serves as the Designing and Operations Director for Ramani’s company.

As he turns 30, Luca finds himself distanced from his musical calling and the stages that once resonated with his voice. Yet, there are whispers suggesting that Sormani harbors a desire to return to his musical roots and once again share his talent with the world.

Luca Sormani’s path, from being an opera singer and worship director to a real estate professional, is a testament to the versatility of his talents. As he stands on the cusp of his 30th birthday, the echoes of his captivating voice still linger in the memory of his audience. The music world awaits with bated breath to see if this multi-talented individual will once again grace the stage and continue to inspire with his music. Regardless of his decision, Sormani’s journey remains an embodiment of passion, talent, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on those who have witnessed his performances.

Captivating Cubist Artist Linnea Moritz Takes Over the New York Art Scene with Her Masterful Works

Linnea Moritz, a young and talented Swedish artist, is making waves in the art world with her captivating cubist paintings. Her unique perspective and dedication to her craft have earned her recognition as a rising star in the New York art scene. With her masterful works, Moritz is redefining the boundaries of cubism and inviting viewers to explore new dimensions of reality.

Moritz’s journey as an artist began at a young age when she was taught realistic drawing by her grandmother and art teacher, Maj Moritz. At the age of 15, she delved into abstraction and cubism, developing a unique style that combines traditional techniques with a modern twist. Inspired by the works of early cubist artists, Moritz found charm in the abstract nature of the style, allowing her to capture the essence and emotion of her subjects in a truly extraordinary way.

“I find a certain beauty in the traditional techniques of painting, the smell and textures of the oil paint, all the chemicals, stretching canvases. There is something very grounding in working with my hands and being able to create works straight from my imagination,” Moritz passionately expressed.

Moritz’s art is characterized by its intriguing abstraction, delicate balance between clarity and ambiguity, and the captivating middle ground that draws viewers into her paintings. Through her cubist style, she challenges traditional representations of subjects by breaking them down into geometric forms and presenting multiple viewpoints simultaneously. This unique approach allows viewers to see themselves in the art and sparks curiosity about the stories behind each piece.

In recognition of her talent and dedication, Moritz recently won the March Juried Salon Show at Greenpoint Gallery, a renowned non-profit gallery in Brooklyn that supports young and emerging artists. Additionally, her painting was displayed on a 20 x 70 meter billboard during Art Basel Hong Kong as part of the “The Sound Of Pixels” exhibition organized by Art Innovation Gallery.

“I am so proud to have been a part of it, especially as a young woman in the industry,” Moritz shared with enthusiasm.

With her artistic prowess and commitment to her craft, Moritz aims to build a legacy in the world of cubism. She is passionate about using her talent and creativity to make a positive impact in the community and collaborate with fellow artists.

“My goal as an artist is to continue developing the art of cubism and empower others to explore their creative potential. I want to contribute to various positive impact projects and leave a lasting impression in the art world,” Moritz explained.

Moritz’s unique perspective and dedication to her art have caught the attention of art enthusiasts, gallery curators, and patrons. Her paintings not only evoke curiosity and invite interpretation but also convey messages that resonate with audiences across different backgrounds.
