Baby Yoda previously had a whinge with Baby Groot. Now, the former is having beef with the Gremlins?
Joe Dante, the Gremlins director, said, in an interview with San Francisco Chronicle, that the well-known green-skinned The Mandalorian star nudged him of the vital creature in his films – maybe a little too extreme.
“I think the longevity of [Gremlins] is really key to this one character [Gizmo], who is essentially like a baby,” Dante said. “Which brings me, of course, to the subject of Baby Yoda, who is completely stolen and is just out-and-out copied. Shamelessly, I would think.”
The Chronicle did not further explain Dante’s comments but pointed out that the director “is not one to hold a grudge” and “isn’t thinking of suing Disney and Lucasfilm.”

Gizmo is the lead Mogwai character in Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. On the other hand, Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, was presented in the first episode of Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars spin-off series.
Baby Yoda’s cuteness has earned him a massive social media presence and led to a vast business opportunity.
This fall, HBO Max is premiering Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The new animated series stars the voice of Ming-Na Wen, BD Wong, and James Hong.
Baby Yoda explained that he had had problems with his pop culture personality, too: Baby Groot. On Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update in 2019, actor Kyle Mooney said he accepts that he “has his haters.”
“If I may, Baby Groot, do me a favor,” he cautioned. “Keep my name out of your little tree mouth before I snap you like a twig.”
