Justin Timberlake has sold his music catalog for a considerable sum of money. The award-winning musician struck an agreement with Hipgnosis Song Management that involves copyrights to around 200 songs, including massive hits “SexyBack” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”
The revenue for Timberlake’s catalog price ranges over $100 million, as per a projection from The Wall Street Journal.
The company, founded by former musician Mercuriadis and funded mainly through Blackstone’s investment portfolio, is already securing deals with some of the music industry’s most notable names, including Neil Young, Lindsay Buckingham, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“I am excited to be partnering with [Hipgnosis’s CEO and founder] Merck [Mercuriadis] and Hipgnosis – he values artists and their creative work and has always been a strong supporter of songwriters and storytelling,” said Timberlake. “I look forward to entering this next chapter.”
Mercuriadis also added, “Putting this deal together has been a complete labor of love. I’m delighted to welcome them all to the Hipgnosis Family. This is the beginning of what we believe will be an incredible relationship important to us all.”
Timberlake is one of America’s most famous singers, songwriters and producers. He gained his fame as a member of NSYNC; later in their career, he split from the band to pursue solo success which has him creating five studio albums with 40 singles.
The 41-year-old singer is the most recent among the list of artists who have sold their song catalogs, counting among them Bruno Mars and Ryan Tedder and music veterans Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
“Justin’s incredible catalogue will join other amazing works at Hipgnosis, which we know will serve as a great steward of his work,” Mercuriadis stated. “We look forward to a great partnership between Justin and Hipgnosis.”
When asked for comments about the matter, representatives for Timberlake did not issue a reply.
