Moscow had no plans on invading anyone, said Russian Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov; however, he added that it was not necessary to push Russia to reconsider. It appeared after an eruption of diplomatic activity on Monday and Tuesday.
Russia through its representatives, counting in the president, a spokesperson, and now Chizhov, has reiterated statements of denial in any intentions of invading Ukraine.
However, with more than 100,000 troops put in position along the borders of Ukraine, the US and its allies have been on alert of a Russian attack any time soon.
The Crimean Peninsula was annexed by Russia in 2014. Afterwards, there has been a long-running row in the eastern side of Ukraine, where separatists supported by Russia control swathes of territory and over 14,000 civilians have died.
Russia is scheduled to begin a 10-day joint military drills on Thursday in Ukraine’s northern neighborhood and a direct ally of Russia, Belarus. An initial 30,000 Russian soldiers are set to participate.
The joint drills were critical; the nature of the brewing war was higher than ever, said a Kremlin spokesperson.
But following the exercises, Russian soldiers placed in position in Belarus would head back to their permanent headquarters, stated Chizcov in an interview.
Jen Psaki, White House spokeswoman, said that drills were “escalatory” in the middle of the increasing crisis between the nations.
There is some recommendation that a resumed emphasis on the Minsk agreements—which aims to conclude the dispute in eastern Ukraine—could be utilized as a basis to reduce the current tension following a two-day diplomacy headed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Among the countries that supported the agreements are Ukraine, Russia, France, and Germany.
A few diplomats have approved of the recommendation, saying that the accords could provide a path to stop or minimize escalation. Phillipe Etienne, France’s ambassador to the United States, tweeted that they should be utilized to “build a viable political solution.”
