The Prince of Wales has given Sir David Attenborough a distinguished royal honor for his services to television, broadcasting and conservation.
Prince Charles awarded Sir David an investiture at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. The Queen knighted him in 1985.
Sir David has been given a more prestigious title, Knight Grand Cross in the Order of St. Michael and St George, for his documentaries about nature that he created to raise climate change awareness.
Meanwhile, the highly-esteemed British broadcaster, whose documentaries count The Green Planet and A Plastic Ocean, was highlighted in a juncture at last weekend’s Platinum Jubilee concert organized outside Buckingham Palace.
A video of Sir David was shown in the palace. In addition, the Duke of Cambridge stressed the attempts of “visionary environmentalists.”
Sir David’s comments about the need to preserve nature and the planet have been noted by many, with him being referred to as a Champion of The Earth by the UN’s Environment Programme.
In Windsor, besides Sir David, Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody received his OBE on Wednesday for his contributions to music and charity in Northern Ireland, as well as actor Toby Jones for his contributions to drama.
