The highly anticipated tour by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band has been a talk of the town, or rather a talk in social media platforms, due to issues with Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing.”

Fans who obtained access codes were able to purchase tickets for $1,000 -$5,000, which sparked a huge criticism from many.

In the wake of recent backlash, Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau has released a statement defending their ticket pricing.

“In pricing tickets for this tour, we looked carefully at what our peers have been doing,” Landau told The New York Times.

“We chose prices that are lower than some and on par with others. Regardless of the commentary about a modest number of tickets costing $1,000 or more, our true average ticket price has been in the mid-$200 range. I believe that in today’s environment, that is a fair price to pay to see someone universally regarded as among the very greatest artists of his generation.”

Ticketmaster Releases the Same Statement

Ticketmaster has released a statement along the lines of Landau’s comments.

“Prices and formats are consistent with industry standards for top performers,” said Ticketmaster.

Ticket prices are high, but the company said only 1.3% of tickets that were sold went for over $1,000.

“Promoters and artist representatives set pricing strategy and price range parameters on all tickets, including dynamic and fixed price points,” said a Ticketmaster spokeswoman in an interview with The Times.

“When there are far more people who want to attend an event than there are tickets available, prices go up.”

Springsteen Career

Springsteen is a collaborator of former President Barack Obama in his podcast, Renegade: Born in the USA.

He has released 20 studio albums – most of it features his backing band, the E Street Band. He dropped his first two albums – Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent  the E Street Shuffle – in 1973.

Later, he changed his style and gained global traction with Born to Run in 1975, 1978’s Darkness on the Edge of Town and 1980’s The River followed suit.

Springsteen is one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has bagged countless trophies such as 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, one Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award.
