Vertige: A Unique Blend of Blues, Rock, and Personal Stories

Vertige is a band that has taken the Los Angeles music scene by storm with their distinct sound and emotionally charged performances. Formed in 2022 by Naomi, a Parisian singer, and Augustus, a French guitarist, the band has quickly captivated audiences with their mix of Blues, Rock, and deeply personal songwriting. Vertige’s story is one of chance encounters, musical evolution, and a shared passion for creating music that resonates on a deeply human level.

The Beginning: From a Simple Crush to a Powerful Band

In 2022, Naomi’s journey toward forming Vertige began under unconventional circumstances. A young woman in Los Angeles looking to impress a guitarist she admired, Naomi set out to find her own band. Her search led her to meet another Parisian living in LA, who introduced her to Augustus, a guitarist with a strong passion for Blues and Rock.

Naomi’s musical roots go back to her childhood in Paris, where she was immersed in jazz thanks to her mother’s career as a jazz performer. Singing from the age of two, Naomi developed a deep love for music and pursued it throughout her life, including a move to New York City to perform in jazz clubs. Later, she transitioned to Los Angeles to continue her musical journey and to create a band of her own.

The band’s formation came to fruition in a moment that seems almost destined. Naomi had already booked a show before she had even assembled a full band. During a visit to Home Depot on Sunset Boulevard, she left her number on a stranger’s windshield, hoping to find a drummer. That serendipitous encounter led to the addition of Jeremy, a French drummer who would soon become a core member of the band.

Augustus: The Guitarist with a Blues Soul

Augustus, the band’s guitarist, brings a wealth of musical influences to Vertige. Hailing from Lyon, France, Augustus was drawn to the electric energy of Texas Blues and Rock n’ Roll from a young age. His early inspirations came from legendary guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, and David Gilmour.

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at University College London, Augustus found himself at a crossroads. Instead of pursuing a career in science, he chose to follow his true passion for music and moved to Los Angeles. It was there that he crossed paths with Naomi, and together they began creating Vertige’s unique sound.

Augustus’ guitar playing is characterized by a perfect blend of Blues tradition and modern innovation. His skills on the guitar are central to Vertige’s music, providing the backbone for their deep, emotional sound that blends Rock with Blues influences.

Vertige’s Sound: A Unique Musical Dialogue

At the heart of Vertige’s music is the chemistry between Naomi’s emotive voice and Augustus’ dynamic guitar. Naomi’s voice has a trance-like quality that can shift between raw energy and emotional depth, creating an intensity that draws listeners in. Augustus complements this with his exploration of Blues and Rock, creating a sound that feels both familiar and new.

The rhythm section of the band is just as integral to their sound. With Jeremy on drums and Andreas on bass, the band has a solid foundation that allows them to explore a range of musical landscapes. Together, the members of Vertige create a sonic experience that is both compelling and unpredictable, inviting listeners to journey through each song’s emotional highs and lows.

Personal Stories, Raw Lyrics

The music of Vertige is deeply rooted in the personal experiences of its members. Each song tells a story, some more intense than others. “The Heart” is inspired by Naomi’s crush that led to the formation of the band, while “Michael’s Song” reflects on a former bandmate’s influence on her musical journey. “Sarah” is a song written about Augustus’ ex-girlfriend, who played a pivotal role in his life and in the creation of Vertige’s sound.

Perhaps the most intense song in their catalog is “Another Gun Story,” a track that draws from Naomi’s tumultuous past, including a dangerous experience with a former boyfriend in the desert. The emotional honesty and rawness of Vertige’s lyrics offer a glimpse into the lives of the band members, providing a strong connection between their music and their audience.

Live Performances: Energy on Stage

Vertige is known for their live performances, where the energy between the band members truly shines. They frequently perform at iconic venues in Los Angeles, such as The Viper Room, where fans can experience their music firsthand. Each show is a reflection of the band’s ability to capture the raw emotion of their music and translate it into an unforgettable live experience.

Their upcoming music video for “The Heart,” releasing on November 14th, will showcase the emotional intensity of the song and further connect Vertige with their growing fanbase. Additionally, Vertige is working on their debut album, which promises to delve deeper into themes of love, heartbreak, and the complexities of relationships.
