7 Songs You Didn’t Know Were Written By Ed Sheeran

Did you know that Ed Sheeran is responsible for some of the biggest hits of the decade? According to rumors, he was even called upon to help co-write Liam Payne’s song for his solo debut! This accomplished singer and songwriter has the incredible ability to pen down wonderful tunes that appeal to music listeners across the world.

You can often see this artist’s name at the top of the charts with his catchy tracks and wonderful collaborations—he even got awarded an MBE for his services to charity and music! From lesser-known collaborations to multi-million sellers, here are some of Sheeran’s best lyrics that he gifted to others:

Justin Bieber—Love Yourself

One of Justin Bieber’s most sentimental moments in his Purpose album was created through the combined efforts of Sheeran and producer Benny Blanco. Bieber had nothing but praise for his amazing co-writer, claiming that he’s one of the most talented lyricists around, and just having his stories and input dramatically improves any song. According to Sheeran, he had initially written “Love Yourself” for his third studio album ‘÷.’

Major Lazer—Cold Water

Benny Blanco and Justin Bieber teamed up once again to create “Cold Water.” This record-breaking jam was penned down for Diplo’s Major Lazer and featured Danish star MØ and Justin Bieber on the vocals. Diplo had been aiming for a partnership like this for many years and instantly knew that this song was going to be the one when he heard it.

The Weeknd—Dark Times

Abel Tesfaye’s‘Beauty Behind the Madness’ reached a breakthrough once he stumbled across Sheeran’s songwriting prowess. Apparently, the pair was drunk at a party after meeting and decided to work together to create this beauty. The singer praised Sheeran as one of the most talented and fastest songwriters that he’s ever worked with.

Jessie Ware—Say You Love Me

Jessie Ware’s ‘Tough Love’ album in 2014 was released just a year before she got married. It’s full of romantic love songs and tear-jerkers that aim to pull at your heartstrings. Sheeran made the song sound even better by layering his vocals enough times to make it sound like a choir in the background. The singer claimed that it was a huge pleasure working with such a ridiculously talented songwriter and that she felt lucky at the chance of getting to see him in his songwriting zone. She believes that Sheeran is extremely prolific and is highly likely to stay relevant forever.

One Direction—Little Things

Sheeran wrote his song “Little Things” when he was only 17, with the help of singer and songwriter Fiona Bevan. He got convinced to work alongside the young men in One Direction for their second album called ‘Take Me Home’ and played a demo of this track in their studio, where they immediately fell in love with the intimate song. Sheeran claimed that the song has one of his favorite lines that he’s ever written.

Taylor Swift—Everything Has Changed

A beautiful collaboration with the queen of heartbreak songs herself, “Everything Has Changed,” is featured on the ‘Red’ album as a heart-breaking song that’s accompanied by a gorgeous music video showing Sheeran and Swift as toddlers who hang out in school and eventually become best friends. Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol provides the backing vocals to make the tear-jerker even more emotional.

Rudimental—Lay It All On Me

Sheeran’s second album had a standout song known as “Bloodstream,” which was contributed to by Rudimental. He proceeded to return that favor for their LP, ‘We The Generation.’ The song was about to get scrapped before he lent his helping hand and musical mind to the process. Amir Amor has known Sheeran since school and said that they weren’t able to find the perfect vocalist until they played the song to the singer, who fell in love with it and wanted to be a part of it. Sheeran wrote an amazing middle eight and completely smashed the vocals in the end.
