How Emerging Musician Chris Caulfield Found His Way Back Into His Passion Amid the Global Crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a significant hole in many lives, with businesses forced to close up shop and many working professionals taking their work with them home. However, for creative people, there is a silver lining. The time at home provided them with the freedom to explore their respective craft. Among those who found themselves delving back into music is Chris Caulfield.

Chris Caulfield is an emerging artist who lives outside of Toronto, Canada. When the global pandemic started making waves, he found himself dealing with one of the most challenging periods of his life, prompting him to go right back into music.

A decade before one of the biggest crises in the world, Chris performed with various bands throughout the city. While he had the potential to make it big, he chose a different path, starting a family and managing several businesses. It wasn’t until the pandemic that he decided to pick up where he left off.

The musician decided to set up a home studio and worked on a project in late 2020. He wanted to create something different from his earlier sound, producing more personal works than he ever made. The months stretched out longer than he anticipated, but Chris finally launched the first series of singles in March 2021. He introduced tracks like “The Other Way,” “Gripped,” “Wolves,” and “Letdown,” generating 10,000 streams in their first 30 days on Spotify.

Since then, Chris Caulfield’s works have been recognized by playlist editors, influencers, and independent labels in North America, all of whom have had nothing but praises for the emerging artist. In addition, his exposure allowed him to connect with other artists that Chris has spoken with for advice, collaborations, and more.

By the summer of 2021, the connections started to formalize with a team revolving around Chris. Together they worked on several singles with two European-based independent labels. They also gained the opportunity to write songs for TV and movies and received the opportunity for an artist development project with a Canadian indie label and management firm.

As an artist, Chris Caulfield often sings about the challenges he endured, with mental health issues being a prevalent theme in his music. He shares about his struggles with chronic pain, depression, and anxiety disorders, along with a range of challenges and experiences that many of his listeners can relate to.

Rather than create works under a single genre, Chris has a penchant for blending genres that have influenced him. He cites modern artists like Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Halsey, and Juice WRLD as some of his biggest influences alongside classic names like the Goo Goo Dolls, Oasis, Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, and Damien Rice.

Chris Caulfield recently launched a new track titled “Stockholm Syndrome.” The song is about how people can fall into an abusive relationship with drugs or medications. While they can take away the pain and induce euphoria, the drugs can alter the body’s chemicals with side effects and cause agitation and dependence, leaving the individuals confused about their feelings.

“Stockholm Syndrome” is only the first of many singles in a project that Chris is working on with the theme of catharsis, which is also the project’s working title. From here, the musician will be leaning towards a darker sound and theme to cope, improve, and connect as an outlet.
