Kim Brogli Releases Powerful Single ‘What A Waste’ Addressing Addiction

Very often in country music, singers will use very real and deep topics to connect with their audience in their songs. Nashville-based singer-songwriter Kim Brogli’s new single did exactly this when she released “What A Waste” on October 13, 2023. The song digs into the dark and all-consuming world of addiction. This powerful track, co-written with award-winning songwriter James Dean Hicks, not only captures the essence of addiction but also sends a vital message about its destructive force and the importance of seeking help.

“What A Waste” is a profound reflection on the impact of addiction on individuals and their loved ones. The song’s lyrics highlight the inner struggle and the emotional toll that addiction takes on a person. With poignant lines like “You can’t feel love if you don’t love yourself” and “If you wake up one day and no one’s here, what a waste,” Kim’s song compels the listener to re-evaluate their life choices and the damaging patterns that can lead to addiction.

Kim’s decision to use her talent to address addiction and mental health-related issues is particularly timely. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a disturbing increase in addiction and mental health challenges. “What A Waste” reminds the listener that it is never too late to seek help, no matter the circumstances. Kim’s song serves as a beacon of hope for those who may be struggling, letting them know that they are not alone and that there is a path to recovery.

Music videos have the unique ability to enhance the impact of a song’s message, and Kim’s official music video for “What A Waste” is a compelling visual narrative that complements the song’s lyrical depth. The video, now available on Kim’s YouTube channel, takes viewers on a journey that mirrors the emotional highs and lows of addiction. It’s a powerful visual representation of the song’s message, adding another layer of depth to the overall experience.

Kim is a storyteller as well as an artist, and she uses music to engage her listeners on a deeper level. Her musical journey is as singular as her narrative. Kim, a native of Middle Tennessee, had a creative spark that was obvious from an early age. She remembers being the hyperactive child with ADHD who could always make people laugh with her outrageous humor and engrossing tales. Beneath the surface, Kim’s love of music and storytelling remained even after she was rejected from the school choir in the fourth grade.

After graduating from The University of Alabama with a degree in French and International Business and enjoying a successful career in real estate, Kim’s life took an unexpected turn. She gifted two guitars to her twin sons but ended up playing them herself, falling in love with the music she was making. Her journey as a musician really started when she received a guitar for Christmas, followed by voice lessons that eventually led to her putting her words on paper and into songs.

Her unique journey led her to producer Will Gawley, who recognized the depth of her soulful voice and compared it to country songs of the 1970s. Kim’s music is often compared to Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Lori McKenna, and Sarah Jarosz.

“What A Waste” is just the beginning for Kim Brogli. It serves as her second single from The Fight, her EP, which will be released in the near future. Through The Fight, Kim will further establish herself as a powerful voice in the American market. Her songs have a unique ability to touch the listener’s heart and make them reflect on the deeper meaning of life in an understated and emotionally resonant way.
