Meet Leash DA BEAAST: Musician, Mother, and Black Female Entrepreneur

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, in an environment filled with music, becoming a musician came naturally for Shalisse Townes, better known as Leash DA BEAAST. Over the years, she has poured her passion for music into creating songs and exploring various avenues that would strengthen her sound. The artist aims for great heights, taking significant strides towards her dreams, and her journey has merely begun. 

Leash DA BEAAST shared how her family of singers and rappers inspired her to pursue a path in music. Her journey towards being a musician came as no accident. The artist feels that it was her destiny from the beginning, like she was born to be in the exact family that deepened her appreciation for the arts. She began producing music at the early age of fourteen and developed a desire for film production as well. She first picked up video directing in 2012 and has been harnessing her skills on the matter ever since.

Merging her talent as a producer and an instrumentalist, Leash DA BEAAST sets herself apart from other upcoming artists in the music industry. She aims to create timeless pieces that allow her audience to relate and connect with her, regardless of age, status, or gender. She wants to be the voice of the younger generation who uses music to reveal realities. The artist had a clear vision of her dreams, and she stayed focused on her goals throughout every stage of her life, and she wants others to do the same. 

Leash DA BEAAST wants to create music that people can escape from all the stress. She wants her songs to provide happiness for people who are going through rough patches in their lives. The artist is truly an innovator because she is using her talent to create a lasting impact. The artist is the creative mind behind captivating songs such as “STAALEM,” “Sanddune,” and her latest release, “Quarantine Purge.” Additionally, her song entitled “BBQ (Beautiful Black Queens)” struck a chord with music lovers worldwide.

“When I wrote this song, I had my daughter heavy on my mind. All I could think of is ‘I need to make a song of mine she can sing to.’ Also, with all that’s going on with the racial tension and misuse and abuse of black women, I wanted to write more of a mantra than a song for Black women and Black women in training,” she explained.

Besides creating music, Leash DA BEAAST also helps other upcoming artists in their journey through her music label, BEAAST Recordings. As an entrepreneur and musician, she connects with her artists in a unique way. Always putting her head on the game, Leash DA BEAAST aims for nothing but the best for her signed artists, believing that each of them has the potential to achieve great heights.

Asked what motivated her to build her brand, Leash DA BEAAST said that she was inspired by her daughter. The businesswoman and musician wants to leave a legacy and create generational wealth for her family. Fueled by her love and devotion for the people she values the most, Leash DA BEAAST uses her unparalleled work ethic and positive attitude in everything she does. 

In five years, Leash DA BEAAST sees herself running an empire with Unlisse Productions, LLC., her cinematography company and her music label BEEAST Recordings. She wants to expand her label and sign more artists to continually make a difference in the world.
