Forging the Road Ahead: Theresa Contreras and BAJA FORGED Redefine Off-Road Customization

By: Joshua Finley

In the ever-evolving world of automotive design, one individual consistently stands out for her ability to blend creativity, innovation, and performance. Theresa Contreras, co-founder and lead designer at BAJA FORGED, has carved out a unique space in the industry by designing bespoke off-road vehicles that are not only functional but also deeply personal.

Customization and Adventure: The Perfect Blend

Theresa firmly believes that customization can change lives. “Customizing your vehicle and using it to take you on adventures will change your life; it changed mine,” she says. Her designs at BAJA FORGED reflect this philosophy, where each vehicle becomes a part of its owner’s story, representing freedom, individuality, and the spirit of adventure.

The company’s tagline, “Signature builds & off-road products built to forge your own path,” speaks to this philosophy, encouraging people to embrace their own journeys and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

A Legacy Built on Passion

BAJA FORGED was born out of Theresa’s desire to create custom off-road vehicles that could withstand even the toughest terrains. Her signature builds, particularly with Ford Broncos, blend aesthetics with performance, transforming everyday trucks and SUVs into adventure-ready machines.

Theresa’s journey into the automotive industry began in her parent’s shop, LGE-CTS Motorsports. Raised in an environment where innovation was key, she learned the importance of hard work early on. After a brief break to study graphic design, Theresa returned to her roots, bringing a fresh perspective that helped her break into the male-dominated world of automotive design.

Staying True to Her Vision

One of Theresa’s greatest challenges was convincing the industry to accept her forward-thinking designs. She often found herself ahead of the curve, with concepts that were not immediately understood or accepted. “If I had let the initial naysayers hold us back, we wouldn’t be here today,” she reflects.

Her perseverance paid off when her designs began winning awards at prestigious events like SEMA. This recognition fueled the creation of BAJA FORGED, where her unique style has become a hallmark of innovation.

Defying Stereotypes and Achieving Success

Theresa never let being a woman in a male-dominated industry define her work. “I don’t think about being a female in a male-dominated industry; I think about how I can be the best at what I do,” she says. This mindset has allowed her to break stereotypes, push limits, and continually innovate.
