With his chart-topping and award-winning songs, Thomas Rhett is one of the most notable icons in today’s country music scene. His captivating lyrics often leave fans eager to learn the narrative behind his music. The country star further intrigued global fans when he shared that his recent album, which topped this week’s new releases, is his most “personal” creation yet.
The country singer is dropping his new album called Country Again: Side A this month, and he revealed that the songs spring from deeply personal experiences and emotions in his life. Thomas Rhett has never shied from revealing his personality through his music, but the songs in his recent album feature raw stories and aspirations. One of which is the song called To The Guys That Date My Girls, which is the country singer’s ode to his three daughters Willa, Ada, and Lennon.
Thomas Rhett shared in an interview, “I was riding around with a buddy of mine from Charleston in Nashville about a one year and a half ago, and we were just talking… about that whole perspective from the dad, being like what would you say to that person? What would you say to the guy who came up to your door, ‘Hey, I’m here to take your daughter on a date.’ Like, are you gonna be the real tough dad? Are you gonna be the dad who invites him in for coffee? Like which kind of version are you going to be?”
“This [song] is kind of like a rough draft of a letter that I kind of felt like things a guy would need to know when you come over to my house to pick up one of my daughters for the first time,” the country singer added. To The Guys That Date My Girls speaks to fathers who are particularly anxious about the inevitable time when their daughters would begin to date and eventually marry someone to create their own family. The song is also said to be “making grown men cry.”
Country Again: Side A will also feature other songs such as Want It Again, Growing Up, and his recent single What’s Your Country Song. The album will also include Heaven right Now, Where We Grew Up, More Time Fishin, Ya Heard, Country Again, Put It On Ice, and Blame It On a Backroad. Furthermore, with the release of his new masterpieces, Thomas Rhett gained the ACM Male Artist of the Year award.
“Country Again: Side A is everything I wanted to say when I was 19 years old but hadn’t lived enough to know how to say any of those things yet,” Thomas Rhett said in a press release. “It’s about the crazy journey that took me out into the world over the last ten years and ultimately brought me back home, more centered and content than ever, with a deep understanding for what’s important in life. I’ve had a blast sharing some of these songs in their acoustic form during quarantine and am blown away by the reaction the fans have already shown.”
Country Again: Side A will be available on April 30. Thomas Rhett is also eyeing the release of the album Side B later in the year.
