When Rilee Astraea experienced what psychiatry called a breakdown several years ago, poetry became her lifeline. The words that had been her childhood companions returned during her darkest hours, and they came with a beat.
Today, the poetic artist and transformation guide known as the Mystic in the Matrix has created something entirely new in the wellness space: Somatic Spells, a collection of transformational audio tracks that blend her original poetry with electronic dance music (ED) production, creating what she calls “an accessible way to transform that blends mindset with movement to awaken your soul.”
From Corporate Professional to Musical Mystic
Somatic spells emerged from the wreckage of a life that looked perfect from the outside. After nearly a decade shaping narratives for Fortune 500s and government agencies while training as a competitive athlete, she hit a wall.
“What looked like success on the outside masked an inner unraveling,” she reflects. Autistic, yet undiagnosed at the time, she experienced a spiritual crisis and existential breakdown that forced her to confront trauma and meet her shadow.
In that crucible, the childhood loves she had abandoned—poetry, music, and movement as play—became tools for rebuilding. Her poetry, set to music, in a form she calls Somatic Spells, became a powerful tool for guiding others through their own transformations.
The Birth of Somatic Spells
The Somatic Spells emerged from Astraea’s recognition that transformation happens in the body, not just the mind.
Each genre-bending track sits in a different energetic mode: EDM cardio for high-energy movement, heavy lifting flows for strength work, or tantric yoga for cool-downs. And each combines poetic lyrics with worship-style intensity and practical psychology to guide listeners through specific somatic experiences.
For example, the track titled Forward Forever (Dreamer’s Run) is designed to keep listeners moving on a run.
That’s why I run.
Pain’s just data; I refine my pace.
Grit becomes grace when I hold my place.
There’s no finish line—only flow.
The dream persists; the veil is thin.
I run until the edge dissolves.
Forward forever. Inside first, then outside.
And in another more internally reflective track titled Little Seed of Surrender, Astraea guides the listener toward embodying the paradox of personal growth:
Creation isn’t lightwork, it’s life’s work—true.
The seed grows in darkness before it sees the sun.
To plant a seed takes grief and grace. I water both.
Release. Rise. Remember—gentle, slow.
Roots down. Shoots Up. Watch me grow.
Spell sealed. Breathe. Hydrate. Write the next rep.
Astraea says creating Somatic Spells, and listening to them on repeat boosts her own mental health. And in sharing them with others, she notes these tracks are “affordable and accessible for people at a time when high-tier coaching is not on everyone’s radar.”
Embracing Technology to Amplify Creativity
Always a poet, Rilee found a way to leverage new technology to set her words to music. Using AI tools to assist with overlay, delivery, and distribution, she’s proving that even though new technology can be controversial among creatives, it can also help package creativity in new ways and deliver it to new audiences.
“The technology allows me to bring these pieces to life in a way I couldn’t have done on my own before. It’s not about replacing human creativity, it’s about amplifying it and making it accessible,” she says.
The approach is working. Somatic Spells are now available on Spotify, Instagram, iHeart Radio, and other platforms, and they’re gaining traction, notably in yoga studios where instructors use them to create immersive experiences that go beyond traditional playlists.
Rhythm as Medicine
For Astraea, rhythm is central to her transformation framework. Her six-step transformation arc, weaves rhythm and melody throughout to help soothe the nervous system, move out of cognitive processing, and facilitate somatic release.
“In these steps, you’ll experience physical shifts: stress unwinds, sleep improves, old emotions surface and release. The body finally exhales,” she says.
It works because music offers a direct connection between body and soul, and her poetry speaks directly to the mind.
“Most transformation programs stay in one lane. Therapy stays in the head, dissecting the story without moving it through the body. Fitness often focuses on performance or aesthetics while ignoring trauma and identity, but we use story, somatics and spirituality together to honor the nervous system and the soul at the same time,” she explains.
The B2B Vision
While individual listeners around the world are discovering Somatic Spells for personal use, Astraea also sees strong business-to-business potential.
Yoga studios, fitness centers, and wellness spaces are already incorporating her tracks into their offerings, creating experiences that blend physical movement with psychological and spiritual integration.
The tracks make nervous-system work feel natural and even joyful. This is a welcome departure from clinical approaches that can feel sterile or intimidating.
Making Transformation Accessible
At the heart of Somatic Spells is Rilee’s mission to make transformation available to everyone, regardless of finances or beliefs. As someone who experienced her own crisis and rebuilt from scratch, she understands that healing can’t wait for financial stability.
“Transformation isn’t a luxury, it’s a birthright,” she insists. “I’ve watched too many people delay their healing because they think they need to save up for the ‘right’ program. But the truth is, you can start exactly where you are.”
Somatic Spells represent an entry point, an affordable tool that anyone can access and benefit from immediately, whether they’re working out at home, driving to work, or practicing yoga.
Living the Journey
Today, Rilee delivers her art and expertise as a certified movement instructor and somatic coach through House of Astraea, the personal transformation studio she runs with her husband, Tim Brennan.
Looking ahead, the couple is preparing to sell their house and cars to live full-time on the road, traveling across the United States to offer immersive experiences that bring their work direct to communities. Examples in planning now include men’s weekend recovery retreats in nature, sacred union circles, and somatic storytelling under the sun.
And Somatic Spells will travel with them, continuing to reach people who need transformation tools they can access right now, wherever they are.
Her debut album, From the Edge of the Matrix, a collection of lifting anthems, flow states, and high-energy cardio tracks that leads the listener through a sonic journey of rebirth and embodied transformation will be released soon.
Whether on the mic, the page, in the studio, or on stage, Rilee’s work reminds us all: You are the story, and you can always write a new one.
