Voltaire’s Ghost: A Rising Force in Dark Pop and Cosmic Goth

A Year of Momentum and Milestones

2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Voltaire’s Ghost. The band, known for its unique fusion of melodic rock with gothic and classical influences, continues to gain traction in the music industry. Their latest single, Death Becomes You, made an impressive debut on the Mediabase Top 40 radio chart, landing at #129 shortly after its release on Valentine’s Day 2024. Produced by Nashville legend Dean Miller, the track delivers a haunting yet seductive narrative of a female vampire luring her human lover into immortality.

The band’s schedule remains packed as they prepare for multiple performances at the world-renowned South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in March. Fans can catch them live on March 11th and 14th at Shakespeare’s Pub on 6th Street in Austin, Texas. Beyond these shows, Voltaire’s Ghost is also preparing to release their full-length album, Black Petals Fallen, which promises to be a defining moment in their evolving sound.

The Journey Behind Black Petals Fallen

Recorded at Fusion Audio Solutions in Colorado between July and December 2024, Black Petals Fallen represents the culmination of Voltaire’s Ghost’s signature sound. The album is currently being mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Joe Ayoub, whose expertise has graced some of the most iconic recordings in modern rock. With 13 tracks, the album blends the band’s melodic rock roots with gothic undertones and classical flourishes, creating an immersive and evocative sonic landscape.

Alongside the album release, an expanded edition of their 2024 NEMESIS EP is set to launch, featuring additional live recordings showcasing the band’s evolving artistry and growing fanbase. This re-release is expected to cement their place in the alternative music scene further.

The Origins and Evolution of Voltaire’s Ghost

Hailing from Western Colorado, Voltaire’s Ghost was founded by guitarist and Grand Junction native Magnus. His early solo efforts gained traction in 2023 when he released a single every Tuesday from May through September, accumulating 17 tracks. Among them was Night of the Pumpkin Thieves, composed initially as a film soundtrack. The strong response to these releases attracted the attention of industry professionals, leading to a collaboration with Dean Miller.

By the end of 2023, Magnus had the opportunity to record new material but lacked a full band. This led to the rapid assembly of Voltaire’s Ghost’s core lineup. Singer Ruby Juhl, a university student, answered an ad for a lead vocalist, while drummer Joshua Eggstaff joined after meeting Magnus during a drumming lesson with his niece. The initial lineup was rounded out by pianist Max Reilly, who contributed to early rehearsals and live performances.

The band officially joined for recording sessions at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios in January 2024. The NEMESIS EP emerged from these sessions, debuting in May 2024 and followed by a tour through Southern California, including performances at the iconic Whisky A Go-Go. Their growing presence eventually led them to sign with Curtain Call Records, marking a new phase in their career.

Looking Ahead: Tours, New Music, and Continued Growth

With the addition of multi-instrumentalist Finn Miller as the band’s touring keyboardist, Voltaire’s Ghost is poised to elevate their live performances in 2025. Their presence at SXSW, combined with the anticipated release of Black Petals Fallen and the expanded NEMESIS EP, reflects their rapid growth and increasing influence in the alternative music scene.

Their hauntingly melodic sound, inspired storytelling, and tireless dedication to their craft continue to resonate with a broad audience. As they prepare for their upcoming tours and album releases, Voltaire’s Ghost is proving to be a force to watch in the evolving landscape of dark pop and cosmic goth.
