The Conscious Pugilist Anthology Vol. One blends poetry, philosophy, music culture, and psychological warfare into one unconventional literary journey.
In an era dominated by short attention spans and algorithm-driven creativity, C.A. Victor is taking a very different approach.
His debut release, The Conscious Pugilist Anthology Vol. One is less concerned with fitting neatly into a traditional literary category and more focused on creating an immersive artistic experience. Part poetry collection, part philosophical commentary, part cinematic narrative, the New York-based author describes the project as “a boxing-themed literary mixtape spanning from 1969 to the near future.”
Released on January 17, 2026, the book is available in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle editions through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. But according to Victor, the format itself only scratches the surface of what the project is really intended to do.
“I didn’t write a book, I produced an experience,” he says.
That statement becomes easier to understand once you hear him describe the creative process behind it.

Victor approached the project the same way a musician constructs an album. Every chapter operates like a track, opening with original poetry and layered verses before the narrative unfolds. Influenced by artists ranging from Prince and Nas to Kendrick Lamar, John Lennon, and Kurt Cobain, Victor intentionally designed the anthology to feel rhythmic, emotional, and multidimensional.
“I treated each piece as part of a larger cohesive body of work,” he explains. “Some rounds are light jabs. Speed read, and you’ll miss the haymaker.”
The title itself immediately sparks curiosity.
For Victor, the word “pugilist” extends far beyond physical fighting. It represents the psychological and spiritual battle taking place inside modern life, a constant war for attention, identity, awareness, and truth.
“Your consciousness is under attack constantly,” he says. “The primary battlefield is now on your phone.”
That tension between awareness and distraction forms the backbone of the anthology. Throughout the book, Victor explores themes including toxic relationships, generational trauma, systemic propaganda, ego, power, influence, and what he describes as “the fight for knowledge of self.”
Still, he avoids presenting the work as preachy or ideological.
“There isn’t a single message being forced onto the reader, and that’s intentional,” Victor explains. “The book is designed more like planting seeds than delivering conclusions.”
That layered philosophy seems deeply connected to the life experiences that inspired the project in the first place.
Victor points to the death of his mother over a decade ago as one of the most transformative emotional catalysts behind the work. After she passed away following a battle with cancer, he discovered old writings she had preserved for years, creative pieces he had long forgotten about himself.
“That moment reintroduced me to a part of myself I had neglected,” he says. “My natural connection to writing.”
Years later, during the isolation of the COVID era and after facing his own personal health scare, Victor began reconnecting with that creative instinct more seriously. He stepped away from distractions, distanced himself from social media, and focused heavily on personal growth and reflection.
“The words would come in my dreams,” he recalls.
What followed was a six-month sprint to complete the initial draft, followed by another six months of revisions and refinement.
The result is a project Victor views less as a standalone release and more as the foundation for an evolving artistic universe.
“The Conscious Pugilist isn’t just a book,” he says. “It’s a brand centered around awareness, personal growth, and self-discovery.”
That perspective also explains why he sees himself primarily as an artist rather than simply an author.
“This book is art first,” Victor says. “You can read it front to back, back to front, or completely out of order and still end up on the same journey. The perspective changes, but the destination stays the same.”
Outside of writing, Victor’s background includes careers in auto sales management, music production, entrepreneurship, and real estate investment. He even received a gold record connected to the album Purple Haze while balancing management roles and business ventures. Yet despite those accomplishments, he speaks most passionately about legacy, fatherhood, and creating meaningful work that outlives him.
“Hopefully, my best work will be as a father,” he says, “and my greatest creations will be my children.”
As readers continue discovering The Conscious Pugilist Anthology Vol. One, Victor says, the response has already validated the creative risks he took, especially surrounding the unconventional title.
“The business side of me understood the challenge,” he admits. “But the artist in me knew playing it safe would compromise the message.”
For now, Victor is continuing interviews, building his online presence, and developing concepts for Volume Two. But his bigger goal seems less about chasing trends and more about creating something that lingers with people long after they experience it.
“I want it to feel like discovering something special,” he says. “Like finding an artist or a sound that stays with you.”
